CAN WE TRAIN RESEARCHERS AND TEACHERS TO MAKE A TEAM? WIN-WIN STRATEGIES IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
Last modified: 2018-01-30
Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the research output as it has been published in the International Journal of Technology and Design Education, Volumes 4-10 (1994-2000). The analysis focuses on the extent to which the articles relate to the three main areas of educational practice: (1) what to teach and why (curriculum goals and contents), (2) to whom and by whom this is taught (pupils, students and teachers) and (3) how it is taught (what teaching-and-learning situation can be created and what effect do they have)? The analysis shows that the number of studies into teaching practice is considerable, but many studies do not directly address the needs of classroom practice. It is suggested that there is a need to develop a more 'client-oriented' research agenda. This could help to establish a better relationship between the 'two cultures' of research and teaching practice.
