Abstract
In recent years, interest for STEAM education is increasing in Japan, as the "curriculum management" is pointed out in the field of education. However, it is difficult to practice STEAM education in the actual school settings. Looking at practical research, there are few examples that guarantee the learning content of all the subjects that make up the STEAM and realize cross-sectional learning that integrates the subjects.
The purpose of this study is to develop STEAM teaching materials using full-color LEDs. Particular attention was paid to the arrangement and composition of contents that integrate the learning of electricity in science, the learning of electric circuits on energy conversion in technology fields, the learning of colors in art, and the calculation of formulas in mathematics.
Our teaching materials require the knowledge and ideas of all the subjects that make up STEAM in the process of calculating the combined resistance value and expressing the intended color. The value of resistance for each color of red, green, and blue is realized by the combined resistance using three resistors. In the process of expressing one color, this teaching material covers a wide range of things, such as bringing to near the target color by balancing red, green, and blue, and combining a series circuit and a parallel circuit as the arrangement of the resistors. Therefore, our teaching material is useful for nurturing students' creative thinking.
