Itinerant technology teacher policy in Taiwan – a solution for the shortage of technology education teacher.

Teacher shortage had been a problem in rural schools. The same situation exists in Taiwan, too. In the past years, rural schools had always been in an inconvenienced situation which they had to hire enough teachers but due to the small amounts of classes the school has, teachers had to teach some subjects other than their own profession. Which leads teachers burned out and lose their interest to teach in rural areas. And most teacher seek their duty in bigger or urban area schools, even the supply teachers or substitute teachers, too. To solve the problem, the government made special laws for the rural schools which allow multiple schools to hire a teacher to teach some certain subjects or use itinerant teachers to serve rural schools.
In Taiwan, Technology Education had been a bright spot in 12-year Basic Education implemented from 2019. Technology education teacher shortage is not a problem just for rural schools, some urban schools are also vexed with this problem. That’s why itinerant teacher policy adopted to promote Technology Education in Taiwan. I am going to present the itinerant teacher policy implemented in Taiwan, both from itinerant teacher policy about itinerant technology education teachers and how it is implemented. And most importantly, what’s the benefits and shortcomings of the itinerant teacher policy used for technology education.
