Abstract

This presentation tracks the history of Technologies as a learning Area and in particular Design and Technologies as a required subject in both Masters of Teaching for ECE and Primary [MMET] and the Undergraduate programs at UniSA. The place and status of Design and Technologies as a recognised teaching & learning area has change within the MMET program requiring a change in planning of courses, the delivery of content and the implementation of innovative approaches to re- establish its importance and significance as a teaching & learning subject.

Design and Technologies role in the Curriculum and Pedagogies courses for the MMET program for ECE and Primary preservice students has changed in delivery timing, structure of the courses and specific content being covered which has led to a significant change in teaching approach of staff teaching within the courses.  This change has opened up opportunities for innovative teaching practices being adopted, the refinement of teaching & learning skills required and the development of integrated approaches to curriculum planning to take place.

This presentation explores the evolution of the changes that are taking place, the identifications of the positive outcomes of innovative thinking & teaching strategies being employed and the depth of learning MMET students are developing in the area of Design and Technologies.

Design and Technologies content unpacking, recognising the scope of concepts being covered & the links to design & system thinking have been explored through a lens connected with Humanities and Social Sciences HASS and The Arts learning areas

The why , how and what have been the educational and learning outcomes are explored and identified ,so as to give direction for future courses .
