Abstract

Using the Technology Engineering Attitude Survey (TEAS) and the Draw an Engineer Test (DAET), this investigation compared the experiences of students enrolled in a mixed male/female 7th grade classroom with those enrolled in an all-female 7th grade classroom. We noted that the students in the all-female classroom had different interests and attitudes towards Technology and Engineering and their enrollment went up in the course and in subsequent classes.  Additionally, we noted that the students in the mixed male/female classroom had different perceptions than their peers in the all-female classroom.  These differences were also seen in students’ concepts of what an engineer does and/or “looks like.”
