Call for Papers

Dear collegaues and friends,

The 10th Biennial International Design and Technology Teachers Association Research Conference: DATTArc (5-8 Dec. 2018, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia), is now open with this call for submission of articles, posters, and displays.

We invite submissions to the following tracks:

  1. SCHOLARLY PAPERS: Scholarly Papers in this section are typically 4000-7000 words, and double blind peer reviewed (including citations and reference list), and double blind peer reviewed.
  2. SCHOLARLY EXTENDED ABSTRACTS: Scholarly Extended Abstracts in this section are typically 900-1500 words (including citations and reference list), and double blind peer reviewed. Pick this if you plan to upgrade to a full journal paper, but still seek feedback and peer reviewed publication in ISBN edition on your basic ideas
  3. STUDENT/TEACHER CRITICAL REFLECTIONS ON PRACTICE - Peer reviewed, practitioner articles of 1000-2500 words with images.  Pick this if you seek to publish to an ISBN status and speak to practice based issues shared with colleagues.
  4. STUDENT POSTERS AND SCHOOL PROJECTS: Unedited A3 to A2 Posters and slides submitted in PDF format. The work will be digitally included in the proceedings, marked as non-referreed, not-copy-editted, but screened for on-topic discussion stimulous, and shared insight.  A visual celebration of Student work (Early Childhood to Univeristy) is also invited to this track.
  5. BOOK REVIEWS: Reviews, Launches, Inviations. This track invites people who have either, completed a book, are preparing a book, or who would like to bring attendtion to a book to colleagues, to submit a review to hold a side event about their book project or review.

 

 

Author Guidelines

Styling:

  • APA 6th Reference format, Times Roman, 12pt Font, single spacing, line space between paragraphs, A4 paper, portrait layout, Margins set to NORMAL (Top: 2.54cm; Bottom: 2.54cm; Left: 2.54cm; Right 2.54cm).
  • A template in Word.docx is provided on abstract approval.
  • Read carelfully the submission check questions and copy right declarations.

SCHOLARLY PAPERS REVIEW FORM

 

Scholarly Papers in this section are typically 4000-7000 words, and double-blind peer reviewed (including citations and reference list).  This is a full academic paper, to be written in a scholarly research style and tone.

Reviews will consider the following Paper features:

  • Topic:  is the Paper’s topic within sufficiently relatable to the field of Design and Technology Education?
  • Structure and Argument:
  • Title (no more than 10 words)
  • (Author(s), Affiliation(s)) -removed initially- for blind review.
  • Abstract, 200-250 words.
  • Sections are given headings related to:
    • Overview/problem statement: to include prior research and the assertion/proposition being claimed in the paper.
    • Body Argument: Includes relevant citations, 
      • APA6th style and end of paper reference list.
      • Theoretical Framework/Methodology/Methods used and defended
      • Footnotes permitted sparingly and short.
    • Evidence: If based on either or both of the following:
      • Empirical data collected or analysis of data the papers contains Results/Data Tables, Images, Graphs that are clear, in Black and White only, Images in greyscale, with assign titles of images, tables, graphs. Example; Figure 1: …; Table 1:….; Graph 1: …; or Image 1: ….
      • Critical Reflection: presents an analysis of experience by exploring social, political, educational, policy, and cultural contexts and exposing the assumptions that appear to dictate responses/outcomes
    • Conclusions: brief re-assertion of the paper’s claim(s), and areas for further research
    • List of Reference used (APA 6th)
